Welcome !

I am Daniel Tozadore, a Ph.D. from the University of São Paulo, where I spent most of the time during my formation. I have been developing researches in the Robotic Learning Laboratory since 2009, lately with focus in Human-Robot Interaction. Currently, I am a postdoc researcher at EPFL.

My current research is on Human-Robot Interaction (HRI). In my Ph.D. project,2.jpg I proposed a robotic architecture for general tasks to autonomously interact with people, adapting to their reactions. More specifically, the project focus is on Education, in which it also aims to be delivered as a framework for the teachers to design HRI activities without programming skills. The architecture is named Robotic-Cognitive Adaptive System for Teaching and Learning (R-CASTLE). As part of this study, the analysis of the R-CASTLE impact by the users’ point of view is being explored. It means I am also considering teachers and students’ feedback regarding the project. So far, I am using the NAO robot, from Aldebaran Robotics in my validation tests. However, the architecture can be used as several electronic devices as an interactive interface.

In my works are also included projects with the collaboration of University of Southern California (USC) to study robots influence in negotiation and persuasion tasks; with the collaboration of the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) in studies to analyze users emotions and feelings by voice analysis and the Smart Home project, entirely by our Lab.

LARA, the domestic robot from Robotic Learning Laboratory

In the Smart Home (Project number 2017/01687-0), supported by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), we are building an intelligent environment through sensors, robots and machine learning techniques to enhance people’s’ lives in their own homes. LARA (in the figure) is the first domestic robot developed by our Lab and it got the second place in the XV Latin American Robotics Competition (LARC), in the RoboCup@Home category. You can check more about LARA here.

You can check out my published studies in the Production page.

The majority of these studies are made so far with children interacting with the NAO robot.
